Embroidery is a beautiful and mindful craft that allows you to slow down and connect with making. One of the great things about hand embroidery is that it's easy to get started. For under $10 you can find all the materials you'll need to get stitching. So what will you need? An embroidery hoop, cotton fabric, an embroidery needle, embroidery thread, and scissors are some of the basics to get you started.
When you have all your supplies ready, it's time to get started. Here's a video on how to place your fabric in your hoop.
Video Tutorial:
Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Select your fabric and embroidery hoop.
Step 2: Gently unscrew the top of the outer hoop so that the two pieces come apart.
Step 3: Place the inner hoop on a flat surface. Next, lay your fabric on top of the inner hoop. Then place the outer hoop on top, sandwiching the three pieces together.
Step 4: Gently tighten the screw on the outer hoop and tug the fabric around the edges so that it becomes taught inside the fabric. You'll know it's tight enough when you tap the fabric and it sounds like a drum.
Step 5: Next, trim the fabric to 2 inches or less around the outer edge of the fabric. Then start stitching!
