Wire Slip for Stumpwork Embroidery
A wire slip is a wire form that is stitched over and acts a a structure to hold the embroidery. It allows the stitched area to be moved around and cut away from the fabric. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the wire slip for stumpwork embroidery.
What you'll need to create the wire slip for stumpwork embroidery:

1. The wire slip uses two embroidery stitches, couching and buttonhole. Start by laying the wire on the front of the fabric. Use the couching stitch to tac down the wire around the outline of the wire slip shape. Leave a tail of 1-2 inches at the beginning and the end of couching the shape outline.
2. Then use the buttonhole stitch to completely cover the outline wire. The buttonhole stitch should be made around the wire. This will help the stitches inside the wire slip from falling off when cut out. You can choose to fill in or not fill in the inside of the wire slip shape. When ready, trim away the fabric around the wire slip, be sure not to cut the threads. If needed, use glue to cover the outer edges of the wire slip.
