Detached Base Woven Picot Stitch
The detached base woven picot stitch creates a 3D triangle that is free from the fabric at the base and the top point. This stitch is great for creating flowers, scales, or movement in an embroidery that you can add in later or to a piece without fabric. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the detached base woven picot stitch.
What you'll need to create the detached base woven picot stitch:

1. This stitch creates a 3D triangle that is free from the fabric. Use safety pins or sewing pins to secure the anchor points of the woven picot triangle. Start the woven picot using the waste knot at least 4 inches away from the bottom right corner of the woven picot. Come up through the back of the fabric at a bottom corner. Slide the needle under the top safety pin.

2. Then slide the needle underneath the opposite corner and bottom center safety pins. Pull the thread so that it creates a triangle outline.
3. Next, slide the thread under the top safety pin again. Tug the thread so that it creates a straight line up the center of the triangle.
4. Start weaving the thread through the three straight strands. Do not bring the needle back into the fabric until the entire triangle is filled.
5. Once the triangle is filled, sink the thread to the back of the fabric around a bottom corner. Unhook the safety pins on the back of the fabric. Cut away the waste knot on the front of the fabric.

6. Then tie the two loose thread ends together in a square knot. Do not trim the threads. These long tails will be used to insert the detached base woven picot.
