February is National Embroidery Month! What better way to celebrate than with stitching?


As per usual, I'll be stitching the month away and would love for you to join me for an in-person, hands on workshop. Embroidery classes are a great way to try a mindful and relaxing craft. No matter if you're new to embroidery, want to try techniques or designs you're unfamiliar with, or are a pro-stitcher looking to advance your skills, I have embroidery classes for everyone.

Cyanotype Botanicals Embroidery

February 1: Cyanotype Botanicals Embroidery at These Hands Maker's Collective from 10:30am-1:30pm PST

Embroider your blue era. Cyanotyping is one of the earliest photographic processes that uses sunlight to capture an image and create a blue print. This concept inspired my Cyanotype Botanicals embroidery design. Even if it's not a sunny day, you can still enjoy a gorgeous blue botanical design.


Join in creating a faux cyanotype! In this beginner-friendly hand embroidery workshop with author and fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ you'll learn hand embroidery basics and get started creating a blue botanical design. This workshop will go over beginner embroidery basics and stitches such as the split back stitch, leaf stitch, detached chain stitch, and French knot. Class is best suited for ages 12+. No prior embroidery experience is needed. All skill levels are welcome.


Colorful Cloud Shoe Embroidery

February 1: Colorful Cloud Shoe Embroidery at These Hands Maker's Collective from 2:30pm-5:30pm PST

Do your shoes need some pizazz? Want to jazz them up with embroidery? Learn how to embroider your canvas shoes with colorful clouds. You can join author and fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on, two hour shoe embroidery workshop. In this class, you’ll learn how to get started with shoe embroidery, transfer your design onto shoes, prep your thread, and what tools and stitches are helpful for embroidering on shoes. During the workshop, you’ll be able to choose your own color assortment to create a unique colorful cloud design as well as the satin stitch, long and short satin stitch, and stem stitch. You will need to bring a pair of canvas shoes to class to embroider. Lace up shoes are recommended. All other materials are provided.



February 5: Upcycle Your Clothing with Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Cover up stains and small holes in your clothing with hand embroidery. Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on workshop. Simply bring a garment to embroider and we’ll provide you with playful nature-inspired sample designs to stitch. This class will cover helpful dos and don’ts of embroidering garments as well as stitches best suited for your individual garment and pattern. Each attendee will also receive an embroidery hoop, thread, needle, and stabilizer to get started. This workshop is beginner-friendly and no prior embroidery experience is required.


Youth Flower Embroidery

February 6: Youth Flower Embroidery at Picket Fence Art Studio from 5-6:30pm PST

Try embroidery with this beginner workshops. Kids will learn how to embroider flowers using 3 beginner embroidery stitches. This class is great for kids looking to get started with hand embroidery. They’ll learn how to place their fabric in the hoop, transfer the pattern, split apart their thread, and stitch the satin stitch, leaf stitch, and stem stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes: a wooden embroidery hoop, flower transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, and printed instructions.


Embroidered Patch Mends

February 7: Embroidered Patch Mends at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Does your denim have a hole in it? Learn how to patch that hole with embroidery! In this two-hour, hands-on workshop with fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ, you’ll learn how to get started with visible mending patches, different threads and materials to use, and stitches for mending your specific garment. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of threads and nature inspired patterns to create your embroidered patch.


You will need to bring a denim garment to class to mend. All other materials are provided.

Needlelace Flowers at Quilting Mayhem

February 9: Needlelace Flowers at Quilting Mayhem from 10:30am -12:30pm PST

Want to learn how to create needle lace? Craft delicate flowers and leaves out of a needle and thread. Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ to craft your own needle lace flowers. In this 2-hour, hands on workshop, you’ll create your own flower design, learn how to couch thread, then use the buttonhole stitch to stitch the needle lace into place. You can even add beads if you’d like! This is a beginner-friendly workshop and all materials are included.


Fluffy Moth Embroidery at UW Botanic Garden

February 11: Fluffy Moth Embroidery at UW Botanic Garden from 6-8pm PST

You’ll be a flutter over these whimsical and fluffy moths. Do you want to learn to create fluffy stitches? Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith for an embroidery workshop. In a two hour, hands-on workshop we’ll cover a variety of embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, split back stitch, fly stitch stitch, French knot, and turkey work. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, moth transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions. This workshop is for makers of all skill levels and no prior embroidery experience is required.

Stumpwork 3D Butterfly Pin at Sew Expo

February 26: Stumpwork 3D Butterfly Pin at Sew Expo from 8am-12noon PST

Want to create textural embroidery that pops off the fabric? Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ to learn stumpwork. Stumpwork is a type of textural embroidery that uses padding and wire to create sculptural elements that stand out from the fabric creating 3D elements. In this 4-hour class you’ll learn how to make wire slip butterfly wings. These wings will be moveable and flutter away from the fabric. After stitching the wings, you’ll be able to finish your embroidery in a pin setting to wear. All materials are included. This class is best suited for makers that have stitched before, however all are welcome.


Sewing and Stitchery Expo

February 27- March 1: Sew Expo at the Washington State Fair Grounds


February 27: Fabric Landscape Embroidery at Sew Expo from 11am-1:30pm PST

Let’s create collage landscapes with fabric! Learn how to create your own fabric landscape using applique embroidery with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop will cover how to pair fabrics to create your own unique landscapes, basic applique and beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the running stitch, chain stitch, French Knot, and fly stitch. Each participant will receive a full class kit that includes an embroidery hoop, cotton fabrics, full skeins of embroidery thread, embroidery needle, sewing pins, backing materials, and printed instructions.

FREE Beginner Embroidery Demo at Sew Expo

February 28: FREE Beginner Embroidery Demo at Sew Expo from 2-2:40pm PST

Have you ever wondered how to do a specific embroidery stitch? Or do you just want to try a bunch of them? Well now you can! Join Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on demo. We’ll cover embroidery basics to get you started, like placing fabric in the hoop, splitting thread, threading the needle, and knotting the thread. This class will also cover beginner embroidery stitches like the satin stitch, back stitch, running stitch, whipped back stitch, French knot, and reverse chain stitch.
