March is National Craft Month! What better way to dive into crafting than with a workshop?

I love taking and teaching workshops because they're a great way to learn from experts and get hands on help with a project. If you've ever wanted to try hand embroidery or learn new needlework stitches, then these workshops are for you to get crafty.

Flower Pocket Clothing Embroidery Workshop

March 1: Flower Pocket Clothing Embroidery with Sew Expo at the Washington State Fair Grounds from 8-10:30am PST

Give yourself some flowers! Embellish a bouquet into your pocket. This could be a shirt pocket, pants pocket, or even a dress pocket. Any pocket that needs florals. Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on, 2.5 hour workshop. She’ll show you how to get started with embroidering your clothing and cover stitches like the stem stitch, detached chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, leaf stitch, French knot, and bullion knot.

A full kit is included with this class and comes with full skeins of DMC thread in various colors, transfer designs, a wood embroidery hoop, an embroidery needle, and printed instructions. Attendees will need to bring their own garments with a pocket to embroider.



Fabric Landscape Applique and Embroidery Workshop

March 1: Fabric Landscape Applique and Hand Embroidery with Sew Expo at the Washington State Fair Grounds from 11am-1:30pm PST

Let’s create collage landscapes with fabric! Learn how to create your own fabric landscape using applique embroidery with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This 2.5 hour, hands-on workshop will cover how to pair fabrics to create your own unique landscapes, basic applique and beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the running stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch, and fly stitch. Each participant will receive a full class kit that includes an embroidery hoop, cotton fabrics, full skeins of embroidery thread, embroidery needle, sewing pins, backing materials, and printed instructions.

March 2: Beginner Thread Doodles Demo with Sew Expo at the Washington State Fair Grounds from from 11:30am-12:15pm PST

Have you ever wondered how to do a specific embroidery stitch? Or do you just want to try a bunch of them? Well now you can! Join Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a quick 45 minute embroidery demo. We’ll cover embroidery basics to get you started, like placing fabric in the hoop, splitting thread, threading the needle, and knotting the thread. This class will also cover beginner embroidery stitches like the satin stitch, back stitch, running stitch, whipped back stitch, French knot, and reverse chain stitch.



EMBROIDERY CLASS: EMBROIDERED BEE T-SHIRT

March 5: Bee T-Shirt Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Have you ever wanted to add embroidery to your t-shirt? Well now you can! Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ in a two-hour workshop. You'll learn the leaf stitch, back stitch, satin stitch, and stem stitch to create this bee and leaf design, specifics of how to embroider on clothing, and tips and tricks to making your embroidered clothing last. Simply bring your own t-shirt and let's get stitching. Class participants will receive a materials kit that includes DMC embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, a transfer pattern, iron-on stabilizer, an embroidery hoop, and printed instructions.

March 8: Woodland Napkin Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Bring the woodlands to your table with these embroidered napkins. From flowers to trees and fruits to mushrooms, these forest forage designs are perfect to celebrate spring and summer dining. Join Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a 2 hour, hands-on workshop stitching your own unique napkins. We’ll cover the seed stitch, stem stitch, detached chain stitch, French knot, and button hole stitch. When you join this class, you’ll also receive a full kit that includes a beechwood embroidery hoop, two white cotton napkins, an embroidery needle, full skeins of DMC embroidery thread, forest forage transfer patterns, and printed instructions.



Mushroom Embroidery Basics Workshop

March 10: Mushroom Embroidery Basics at Picket Fence Art Studio from 2-4pm PST

Let’s stitch magical mushrooms! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of fungi in this embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, reverse chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, mushroom transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.



Positive Plants Embroidery Workshop

March 11: Positive Plants Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Let’s stitch a little positivity into our everyday lives. Join Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for Positive Plants embroidery, a hands-on beginner-friendly workshop. In this two-hour class we’ll use hand dyed indigo fabric and choose from four phrases (You are loved, you are magic, you are enough, or you belong here) or create your own to stitch among leaves. Melissa will share how to prep your hoop, transfer your pattern, and use the back stitch, stem stitch, and lazy daisy stitch to create your own positive plant design. All materials for class are included: a wooden embroidery hoop, indigo dyed cotton fabric, full skeins of DMC embroidery thread, embroidery needle, 4 pattern options, transfer paper, felt, sawtooth hook, and printed instructions.



Floral Embroidery Basics Workshop

March 16: Floral Embroidery Basics at at Monster from 1-3pm PST

Flower power time! Learn to embroider flowers in this hands-on embroidery basics workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour class covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the satin stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, detached chain stitch, leaf stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, floral transfer designs, embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, a yellow pattern fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.

March 18: Embroider a Photo Frame at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Want to create an embroidered photo frame keepsake? Create a personalized hand stitched frame to remember a special memory, location, event, and more.

This two-hour hands-on class with Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ will get you started with hand embroidering a photo frame. Each person will be able to choose from a variety of nature inspired patterns and thread colors to create a personalized project. Class will cover hand embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, split back stitch, stem stitch, and French knot. Frame fits up to a 4x3 photo best. Photo is an example of what can be created with this class. Designs will vary.




March 20: Crazy Quilt a Needle Book at Monster from 6-9pm PST

Looking for a way to store your sewing needles? Needle books are the best way to store all your needles, pins, thread bits, and more! Learn how to machine sew your own book in this class with Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. Melissa’s mom taught her how to crazy quilt when she was in elementary school. And it only took her 4 years to finish her first quilt… Don’t worry, quilted needle books are much quicker to make! This three-hour workshop will cover how to crazy quilt the outside of the needle book, as well as finish it with four inside felt pages. Class participants will get to choose from a wide variety of fabrics to create their own unique book design. Got your own sewing machine? Let us know if you will be bringing it along - machines will be provided if needed.

Upcycle Your Clothing with Hand Embroidery Workshop at Monster

March 29: Upcycle Your Clothing with Hand Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST

Cover up stains and small holes in your clothing with hand embroidery. Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on workshop. Simply bring a garment to embroider and we’ll provide you with playful nature-inspired sample designs to stitch. This class will cover helpful dos and don’ts of embroidering garments as well as stitches best suited for your individual garment and pattern. Each attendee will also receive an embroidery hoop, thread, needle, and stabilizer to get started. This workshop is beginner-friendly and no prior embroidery experience is required.
